Getting Started

How do I create an account?

Tap "Sign in" in the top-right corner, then choose "Create an account." Enter your email, pick a username and password, and you're in.

I forgot my password — how do I reset it?

On the sign-in page, tap "Forgot password?" and enter your email. You'll receive a link to set a new password.

Can I install IronRod as an app on my phone?

Yes! On iPhone, open IronRod in Safari, tap the Share button (the square with an arrow), then tap "Add to Home Screen." On Android, open IronRod in Chrome, tap the three-dot menu, then tap "Add to Home screen" or "Install app." This creates an app icon that opens IronRod in its own window, just like a regular app.

Reading & Highlighting

How do I highlight a passage?

Open any chapter, then select the text you want to highlight. A toolbar will appear letting you add a comment and save your highlight.

Why isn't the highlight button appearing?

Make sure you're signed in first. The highlight toolbar only appears when you select text while logged in.

Can I edit or delete a highlight?

Yes. Tap on any of your own highlights to open it, then use the edit or delete options.

Can I make a highlight private?

Not currently. All highlights are visible to people who follow you. You can control who follows you by requiring follow-request approval in Settings.

Social & Following

How do I find people to follow?

Use the "Follow People" link in the header to search for people by name or username.

I sent a follow request but nothing happened — where do they accept it?

If the other person requires follow approval, your request will appear in their Follow Requests page. You'll start seeing their highlights once they approve it.

Where do I see my pending follow requests?

Open your user menu (your avatar in the top-right) and tap "Followers." A numbered badge appears on your avatar when you have pending requests. From there, you can approve or deny requests and follow people back.

Can I remove a follower?

Yes. Go to Followers & Following (from your user menu or profile page), open the Followers tab, and tap "Remove" next to any follower you want to remove.

What are "featured" users?

Featured users are accounts highlighted on the Follow People page to help new users discover interesting people to follow.

Feed & Replies

What shows up in my feed?

Your feed shows the most recent highlights from people you follow, in reverse-chronological order.

How do I reply to a highlight?

Open any highlight and type your reply in the comment box at the bottom. Replies are visible to anyone who can see the highlight.

Can I turn off replies on my highlights?

Yes. When creating a highlight you can disable replies. You can also edit an existing highlight to toggle replies off.

Can I hide a highlight from my feed?

Yes. Open the highlight and tap the hide option. The highlight will be removed from your feed but will still be visible to others.

Child & Family Accounts

How do I create a child account?

Go to Settings → Child Accounts and tap "Create child account." Choose a username and password for your child — no email is needed.

How does my child sign in?

On the sign-in page, your child enters the username and password you created. There's no email involved.

Can I see my child's highlights?

Yes. Your child's highlights are visible from your Settings → Child Accounts dashboard.

Who approves follow requests for my child?

You do. Follow requests for child accounts appear in the parent's Follow Requests page, and only you can approve or deny them.

Do child accounts appear in search?

No. Child accounts are hidden from the public user search for added privacy.

How do I promote a child account to a full account?

In Settings → Child Accounts, select the child and tap "Promote to full account." They'll need to add an email address and will manage their own account going forward.

Account & Settings

How do I change my username or display name?

Go to Settings → Profile. You can update your display name and username from there.

How do I set my bio?

Go to Settings → Profile and fill in the bio field. It appears on your public profile page.

What does "auto-approve follows" do?

When enabled, anyone who requests to follow you is automatically approved. When disabled, you must manually approve each follow request.
